I just finished trying pagergpt, where I built and deployed my own e-commerce assistant. During the process, I learned where it excels, needs improvement, and who it’s truly built for.

In this pagergpt review, I’ll discuss the pros and cons, what it is, who it’s best for, and its key features. Then, I’ll show you how I used it to create an e-commerce assistant in a matter of minutes.

Here’s how I used pagergpt to create an e-commerce assistant:

  6. Provide a Name & Purpose
  7. Add Instructions
  8. Configure Actions
  9. Connect Calendly
  10. Test the Agent
  11. Deploy the AI Agent
  12. Choose the Host

Step 1: Sign Up for pagergpt

I started by going to pagergpt.ai and selecting “Sign Up” on the top right.

After creating my account and answering a few questions, pagergpt asked me which AI agent template I wanted to begin with:

I chose E-Commerce Assistant. I wanted to see how well pagergpt could complete e-commerce tasks, such as refunds and order tracking.

Step 3: Upload Content for Training

Next, I added some files to train my bot with my content. I uploaded a PDF of a product catalog, store policies, and some orders.

Once uploaded, I trained the AI agent on the content.

Step 5: Test the AI Agent

Once my AI agent was trained, I hit “Start testing.”

Step 6: Provide a Name & Purpose

Filling out the name, purpose, and greeting sections on pagergpt.

Immediately, I was taken to the “Agents Studio” where I could customize my AI agent.

The name, purpose, and greeting were already automatically populated by pagergpt. However, I changed these fields to match the PDF I’d uploaded and filled it out with the following:

  • Name
    • StellarHome
  • Purpose
    • You are a knowledgeable and helpful E-commerce Assistant for StellarHome. Your goal is to help customers find product information, explain shipping and return policies, and provide updates on order statuses (using the Order ID or Customer Name). You must strictly follow the store’s “unused” return policy and accurately calculate shipping costs based on the $50 threshold.
  • Greeting
    • Hi {name}! 👋 I’m your StellarHome shopping assistant. I’m here to make your experience seamless and fast. I can help you:
      • Find products by category or features
      • Recommend items based on your preferences or budget
      • Check details on availability and shipping costs
      • Track or return an existing order
      • Share current deals and store promotions
    • What are you looking for today?

Step 7: Add Instructions

Next, I filled out the “Instructions” section with this:

“Role & Tone: You are the StellarHome Shopping Assistant. Your tone is concise, friendly, and professional. You are designed to provide a high-end e-commerce experience.

Handling “How can you help?” When a user asks “how can you help me?”, reply naturally with examples based on StellarHome data: “I can help you find products, track your orders, or explain our policies. For example, try asking: ‘Show me yoga mats under $50’ or ‘Compare the Super-Quiet Blender with other options.’”

Personalization & Context: Always use stored user details (First Name: {first_name}, Last Name: {last_name}, Email: {email}, Location: {location}) to personalize the conversation. If this data is available in the chat context, do not ask for it again.

E-Commerce Actions:

  • If the user asks to track an order, reference the “Recent Customer Orders” section in your knowledge base (or trigger the Order Tracking integration if active).
  • If the user asks about returns, strictly verify the “unused” requirement from the StellarHome Return Policy.

Knowledge Constraints:

  • When no relevant information is found in the StellarHome PDF/Files, politely offer to connect the user with a live agent via the Shared Inbox.
  • If a brand or store name in the knowledge source is marked as restricted, replace it with “our store.”

Response Style: Keep responses short and optimized for mobile chat widgets. Use bullet points for product features or multi-step instructions.”

Step 8: Configure Actions

Last but not least was configuring actions. This is where you can connect apps to actually do things (for example, looking up a real tracking number or booking a meeting) instead of just reciting text from the content you trained the AI on. I selected “Configure Action.”

Step 9: Connect Calendly

This opened a new window where I could connect 90+ apps like Gmail, Shopify, and Calendly. I started with Calendly.

I selected “Get Events,” named it “Schedule a Meeting,” and connected my Calendly account.

Step 10: Test the Agent

Saying

Once my account was connected, I began testing my agent in the chatbot on the right. I started with a simple “Hello” to see how it would respond.

Its response was exactly what I put in the “Greeting” field. Just make sure to add the right variables in the greeting if you want it to use the user’s specific name, etc.

Next, I asked the agent, “What do you sell?” to see if it would accurately pull the information from my knowledge base (the PDF I uploaded).

Unfortunately, it kept things general when I wanted to know the specific products by responding with:

“Hi! We sell a variety of home and lifestyle products including furniture, kitchen appliances, home decor, bedding, and more. If you want, I can help you find something specific or recommend items based on your preferences. What are you looking for today?”

To fix this, I added these specific instructions:

“CRITICAL RULE: USE KNOWLEDGE BASE ONLY You are the StellarHome Assistant. You are STRICTLY forbidden from using your own general knowledge about what stores typically sell.

  1. Inventory Control: If asked “What do you sell?”, you must ONLY list the “Super-Quiet Blender” and “Eco-Friendly Yoga Mat.” Do NOT mention furniture, bedding, or decor.
  2. Verification: Before every response, search the uploaded “StellarHome Catalog” PDF. If the information is not there, say: “I’m sorry, we don’t carry that at StellarHome. We currently only offer our signature Blender and Yoga Mat.”
  3. Tone: Concise and high-end.”

Updating the knowledge base worked! It was much more specific.

Next, I wanted the AI to send me a Calendly link to book a meeting. I responded with this: “I’d like to book a consultation for the blender.”

Once again, the response was too general.

To fix this, I added the following instructions: “Whenever a user mentions ‘booking,’ ‘scheduling,’ ‘meeting,’ or ‘consultation,’ you must immediately trigger the Calendly Action and show the booking widget.”

I reran the conversation, and overall it worked! While the link wasn’t a widget, and it responded with the Calendly link after I gave it my email, it still did exactly what I wanted.

Step 11: Deploy the AI Agent

Once I was happy with everything, I hit “Deploy” on the top right.

This was where I could choose where to host the AI agent (website, Slack, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

Overall, pagergpt made it surprisingly easy to build, train, and refine a practical e-commerce AI agent without touching code. While it took a bit of instruction tuning to get it working how I wanted, it handled workflows like product queries and scheduling how I wanted.
