Atlas VPN may not be the biggest name in the sector, but it nails a few key fundamentals which make it a compelling offering for the everyday user.

It’s modest server network is still large enough to serve the needs of most, while boasting fast speeds and competitive costs.

Pros

  • Free plan available
  • Unlimited connections
  • Solid performance

Cons

  • Questionable privacy practices
  • Modest server network

Accessibility

4.8/5

Boasting a free-to-use variant of its paid service, Atlas VPN instantly becomes more accessible than most.  Yes, some companies offer free trials, but the lure of a free offering is no doubt greater.

Moving on to its subscription service, and users benefit from high levels of flexibility.  Here, Atlas VPN can be run on the following operating systems.

  • Windows
  • MacOS
  • Android
  • iOS
  • Linux
  • Android TV
  • Fire TV Stick

More impressive is that fact that Atlas VPN allows for its service to be run simultaneously on an unlimited number of devices.

On the streaming front, Atlas VPN performs well, providing the ability to unblock all the major services, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, etc.  This feature, which was once hit-and-miss among VPN platforms, is now must have for any reputable VPN.

Regardless of where you are situated, or where you want to route your connection, Atlas VPN’s server network should perform well.  While smaller than the big names in the sector, it is still plenty robust to serve the needs of the average user, boasting over 750 spanning 40 countries.  Torrenting is supported across the entire network, with no need to rely on dedicated servers.

Security Features

4.7/5

Another area which Atlas VPN does well in is its security features.  It not only supports staples like an adblocker and split-tunnelling, but also,

  • SafeSwap – “access the internet from several IP addresses at a time”
  • Tracker Blocker – “stop third-party trackers from gathering insights about your online activities”
  • MultiHop+ – “tunnel your connection via multiple rotating VPN locations”
  • Safe browse ” this feature helps stop third-party trackers from gathering insights about your online activities.”
Data Breach Monitor “all-in detection mechanisms scour the internet to investigate whether your personal details have been exposed online.”

Most importantly, Atlas VPN has incorporated a kill switch to halt internet connections in the event that its VPN drops out, and AES-256 encryption.

Privacy

3.7/5

The one major area where Atlas VPN may cause some trepidation is surrounding privacy.

Based in the United States, Atlas VPN is situated in a country that, while not the strictest, is definitely not the most lenient with regards to privacy laws.

Atlas VPN does state that it does not log any data on its users.  What is does track however, is a variety of other information which includes, but is not limited to,

  • what type of device is being used to connect
  • widespread location
  • attribution analytics

While it does boast a private DNS service, and data breach monitor, overall privacy is definitely not the focal point of Atlas VPN.  There are worse, but there are also many better.

Performance

4.4/5

Currently, Atlas VPN states that it supports both WireGuard and IKEv2/IPSec protocols, with no mention of the popular OpenVPN.  By supporting the rapidly growing WireGuard protocol, users of Atlas VPN can expect impressive speeds when connected to the service.

While and VPN service should be expected to slightly slow your connection, expected speeds should still be plenty sufficient to perform normal activities such as media streaming – which is the main draw towards a service such as Atlas VPN.

The only instance in which users can expect increased speeds, is if living in a region where internet service providers partake in throttling.  In such a case, a VPN will potentially allow the user to circumvent such tactics by appearing as though they are based in a different location.

Purchasing

4.7/5

Like most VPN providers, Atlas VPN has made purchasing easy with a variety of plans and payments methods.

Currently Atlas VPN accepts,

  • Credit Cards
  • Google Pay
  • PayPal
  • Qiwi
  • Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple)

Subscriptions current range from $1.83/mth on a 3 year plan, to $10.99 on a month-to-month basis.

Between its free variant and monthly rates as low as $1.83/mth for its paid service, Atlas VPN is one of the most competitive options on the market from a purchasing standpoint.

It should be noted that the free variant has data caps, meaning that while it will work fine for giving a semblance of privacy during online browsing, it will not be an appropriate choice for those looking to stream.  It however is the perfect stepping stone to try out the service before committing and signing up.

Conclusion

4.4/5

While it may trail some of the leading VPN offerings in ancillary features, this is rapidly changing as Atlas fleshes out its service.

For now, if all you are looking for is a VPN service that unblocks streaming platforms, and provides fast downloads, make sure to give Atlas VPN serious consideration.
