Gartner Recognizes Leading Data Platform Weka as a Visionary

Updated on

Gartner has recently recognized Weka as a Visionary after placing it in the Visionaries quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage. Weka is a leading data platform for modern applications.

The company earned this spot for the first time ever, and it is awarded based on extensive research by Gartner. The Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage assess vendors that provide products for unstructured data growth for enterprise data centers, such as object storage providers and distributed files systems vendors.

According to Gartner, “Visionaries are typically vendors that are focusing on strong innovation and product differentiation but are smaller vendors with limited reach or achievement to date, or larger vendors with innovation programs that are still unproven. A vendor in the Visionaries quadrant delivers innovative products that address operationally or financially important end-user problems on a broad scale and has yet to capture market share or sustainable profitability.”

Liran Zvibel is Co-founder and CEO at Weka.

“We are extremely pleased that Gartner has placed Weka in the Visionaries quadrant, which definitely is fitting for us at this stage of growth,” said Zvibel. “Weka has taken a radical departure from the approach taken by vendors over the last 20 years, with dramatic innovation in both our technology and our business model. Our highly experienced founding team started with a blank sheet and engineered the product from the ground up to meet the demands of next-gen peta- and exa-scale workloads with new algorithms and data structures. This is the vision of where storage will go over the next 20 years as next-gen workloads rapidly demand exponential growth in performance and scale.”

Weka’s Offerings

Weka offers WekaFS, which is a cloud-native, data-center ready platform built specifically in the cloud and for the cloud. The platform addresses storage challenges brought on by mixed modern workloads and applications that leverage Cloud and GPU compute through advancements in flash utilization.

Customers can run WekaFS on-premises, natively in the cloud, or orchestrate data between the two.

Weka has an overall rating of 5 out of 5 stars in the Gartner Peer Insights review in the Distributed File Systems and Object Storage Market. According to Weka’s customers, some of the biggest pros of the platform are its simplicity, speed, and scale.

According to Zvibel, “Weka is investing so heavily now to double-down on our Go-to-Market strategy. Weka continues to achieve internal goals with ease and is setting the bar in the industry.  While rightfully famous for our success with high-performance, next-generation workloads, we are also increasingly winning large-scale general-purpose file system workloads with high-profile customers who appreciate our unique and simple scalability, our ease of management, and our great support. Weka will continue to impress.”
