EPG Modular Data Center has topped out its approximately US$120 million factory in Senai Airport City, Johor, the company announced on November 6, 2026, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The topping-out ceremony included the raising of the final structural beam, marking a construction milestone rather than the start of operations. The Free Industrial Zone factory covers 107,450 square meters, including 70,000 square meters of production space. EPG projects that the completed facility will rank among the modular data center sector’s largest single-site module manufacturing bases by production capacity.

Factory Layout and Product Scope

The master plan assigns five buildings to sheet metal production, power transfer unit (PTU) products, diesel generator manufacturing, final assembly, and combined research and development (R&D) and office functions. That layout places component production, power-equipment manufacturing and final assembly within the same factory complex.

The factory will produce modular data center shelters and supporting equipment, including diesel generator sets and PTU power modules. The product plan therefore extends beyond the shelters themselves to supporting power equipment.

By consolidating shelter and critical power equipment production in Malaysia, EPG is placing manufacturing closer to regional customers. EPG expects the arrangement to improve coordination between production and assembly, help it respond more effectively to project schedules and provide greater delivery flexibility.

Automation and Digital Production Systems

EPG expects the production lines to reach an automation rate of at least 80%, using advanced automation equipment, intelligent controls and automated welding. Planned processes include pretreatment, laser cutting, robotic welding and dust-free coating. Modular production-line design is intended to accommodate multiple product types and specifications.

The manufacturing plan also connects business and production software. Supplier relationship, product lifecycle, manufacturing execution, quality management and warehouse management platforms will link supply-chain, R&D, production, quality and warehousing processes. Digital twin technology is intended to provide production visibility and traceability, while intelligent sensing and real-time alerts are designed to support workplace and equipment safety.

Hiring and Regional Role

EPG expects the fully operational factory to employ more than 800 people locally. The hiring target therefore belongs to the operating phase rather than the topping-out milestone. Its stated operating priorities include resource efficiency, waste reduction, employee safety, local talent development and cooperation with Malaysian suppliers and partners.

Founder and chairman Alick Wan described the project as a combination of advanced manufacturing and local partnerships, intended to create a responsive Malaysian base. The model is designed to evolve with customer needs in other markets.

The central execution question is whether EPG can finish the plant on schedule and translate its planned production systems and local hiring into the projected manufacturing capacity and delivery flexibility.
