Cohere Launches North 2 With Redesigned Agent Harness and Memory

Cohere on October 5, 2026, launched North 2, the latest version of its North enterprise agentic AI platform, adding cross-session agent memory, a redesigned orchestration harness, and granular administrative cost controls across cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped deployments.
In its announcement, Cohere described North 2 as its biggest upgrade yet, unifying enterprise-grade security, intelligence, cost governance, and full-stack control in a single agentic platform that runs wherever an organization’s data lives. The company said it has spent the past year rolling North out across finance, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, and the public sector, and that those large-scale production deployments shaped the new version. Cohere’s listed highlights include a redesigned agent harness, increased intelligence through memory, libraries, skills, artifacts, and app creation, model-agnostic operation, AI sovereignty through flexible deployment, and enterprise governance through North Admin, which adds granular cost controls, rate limits, user quotas, and organization-wide caps.
New Agent Capabilities and Connectors
At the core of North 2 is what Cohere calls an advanced agent orchestration system that independently handles complex, multi-step processes. According to the company, users can build agents and automations with simple prompts while keeping humans in the loop, create reusable agents and automations that can be shared across an organization, and prototype documents or apps directly in chat.
The release introduces several named feature groups, according to Cohere. Skills are reusable capabilities agents can call on so employees do not rebuild the same logic, and Libraries hold shared knowledge and assets that an entire organization can draw from. Memory lets agents retain context across sessions rather than starting fresh each time, while Applications lets users prototype and produce decks, dashboards, documents, and lightweight apps from natural language. Automations supplies pre-built templates for common processes, a drag-and-drop visual workflow builder, and real-time performance monitoring.
New enterprise connectors link North to Slack, SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, Jira, Linear, Notion, and GitHub. Cohere listed financial data connectors to PitchBook, Crunchbase, Daloopa, FiscalAI, S&P Global, and FactSet as planned.
LG CNS uses North to bring AI to customers at scale across South Korea, Cohere said. In the announcement, Yohan Jin, Head of AI Center at LG CNS, said:
“North gives enterprises a secure, practical foundation for turning agentic AI into real business value. Our experience using North within LG CNS and bringing it to customers across Korea has reinforced our confidence in its ability to scale intelligent automation across the enterprise.”
Security, Governance, and NVIDIA Collaboration
North 2 deploys privately on-premises, in the cloud, or fully air-gapped, with environment options listed as self-hosted, virtual private cloud, hybrid, or on-premises. Cohere lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and ISO 42001 certifications for the platform and said North Admin lets teams enforce guardrails at the individual agent level. According to the company, the guardrails filter content, improve safety, and validate model responses, while autonomy policies restrict agents to actions they are authorized to take and seek human oversight for critical decisions.
Cohere said it conducts continual security testing, including red-teaming exercises and third-party vulnerability scanning, and provides observability tools that monitor service performance and log all changes. The company also said Bell Cyber is partnering with North to bring government-grade security to agentic AI. Jawed Ahmad, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Bell Cyber, said North lets his organization apply agentic AI inside its security operations while maintaining the control, privacy, and data sovereignty standards its customers require.
North Admin supplies the release’s governance layer. Cohere said administrators can set roles and permissions, control which models are used where and by whom, and monitor activity in real time with detailed analytics, viewing token spend and limits at a granular level or through a systems-level overview. Alert thresholds can notify teams before limits are reached, and a flow-control feature defines consumption tiers based on requests and token rates for users and groups. The platform is model agnostic: organizations can run Cohere’s generative models or bring their own existing models.
Cohere also said its collaboration with NVIDIA found that North generates more insights for fewer tokens when Cohere models are trained and deployed on NVIDIA Blackwell and Hopper hardware, and that running its models on NVIDIA hardware increases tokens per second per node, effectively decreasing spend. Kari Briski, Vice President of Generative AI at NVIDIA, said organizations require control over the location of their AI workloads and the security of their data, and that Blackwell and Hopper speed inference for Cohere models, helping North 2 deliver more tokens at lower cost.
The North Platform Before North 2
Cohere first made North widely available on August 6, 2025, describing it at the time as an agentic AI platform that securely accesses workplace data with private deployment. The original platform combined Cohere’s generative and search models with customizable agents and built-in workflow automations, and it could run on as few as two GPUs across on-premise, hybrid cloud, virtual private cloud, or air-gapped environments. That announcement named RBC, Dell, LG CNS, stc, Ensemble Health Partners, Second Front, and Bell as organizations using North, and Cohere said it had developed North for Banking, a customized configuration for financial services, with RBC, and partnered with Dell to deliver North on-premises through Dell AI Factory infrastructure.
Cohere’s current North product page frames the platform around Discover, Create, and Automate capabilities and states that North can run in a customer’s own virtual private cloud or on-premises environment, or through Cohere’s Model Vault inference platform. Cohere’s announcement directs organizations interested in North 2 to book a demo through its sales team.
