NVIDIA Board Authorizes $150 Billion Increase to Share Repurchase Program

NVIDIA announced on September 28, 2026, that its Board of Directors has authorized an additional $150 billion under the company’s existing share repurchase program, increasing the total remaining amount authorized to $235 billion. The company said it expects to execute the total remaining program through fiscal year 2028.
NVIDIA described the increase as the largest share repurchase authorization increase in history.
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, said in the announcement: “NVIDIA’s growth is being driven by a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing. Our cash generation gives us the capacity to invest in the technologies that advance this transformation and return capital to shareholders. This authorization reflects our confidence in the long-term opportunity ahead.”
Prior Expansions of the Repurchase Program
On August 26, 2025, the Board approved an additional $60.0 billion to the company’s share repurchase authorization, without expiration, NVIDIA disclosed in its second-quarter fiscal 2026 results, released August 27, 2025. As of July 27, 2025, the end of that quarter, $14.7 billion remained under the authorization, and the company had returned $24.3 billion to shareholders through repurchases and cash dividends during the first half of fiscal 2026. The release reported second-quarter revenue of $46.7 billion, up 56% from a year earlier.
On May 18, 2026, the Board approved an additional $80.0 billion to the authorization, also without expiration, according to NVIDIA’s first-quarter fiscal 2027 results, released May 20, 2026. During the quarter ended April 26, 2026, the company returned approximately $20.0 billion to shareholders, a level NVIDIA described as a record, and $38.5 billion remained under the authorization at quarter end. The same release raised the quarterly cash dividend from $0.01 per share to $0.25 per share; the increased dividend was paid on June 26, 2026, to shareholders of record on June 4, 2026. First-quarter revenue was a record $81.6 billion, up 85% from a year earlier, the company reported.
During the second quarter of fiscal 2027, ended July 26, 2026, NVIDIA returned approximately $26.0 billion to shareholders in the form of shares repurchased and cash dividends, according to the company’s second-quarter fiscal 2027 results, released August 26, 2026. Approximately $99.0 billion remained under the share repurchase authorization as of the end of that quarter.
Cash Generation and Balance Sheet Capacity
NVIDIA’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, shows the company repurchased 203 million shares for approximately $39.8 billion during the first half of fiscal 2027. The filing’s cash flow statement records $39.0 billion in payments related to repurchases of common stock for the six months ended July 26, 2026; the corresponding line for the six months ended July 27, 2025, records $23.8 billion. Dividends paid in the first half of fiscal 2027 totaled $6.29 billion.
For the same six-month period, the filing reports net income of $118.0 billion and net cash provided by operating activities of $74.4 billion. As of July 26, 2026, NVIDIA held $22.4 billion in cash and cash equivalents, $34.1 billion in marketable debt securities, and $42.8 billion in marketable equity securities, with total assets of $320.3 billion and total shareholders’ equity of approximately $229.0 billion. In June 2026, the company issued an aggregate of $25.0 billion of senior unsecured notes across seven tranches for general corporate purposes. The filing’s cover page states that 24.1 billion shares of common stock were outstanding as of August 21, 2026.
For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, NVIDIA reported revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% from a year earlier, with Data Center revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117% from a year earlier. GAAP net income for the quarter was $59.7 billion, and GAAP gross margin was 75.0%. The company’s stated outlook for the third quarter of fiscal 2027 is revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, and NVIDIA said the outlook assumes no Data Center compute revenue from China.
NVIDIA will pay its next quarterly cash dividend of $0.25 per share on October 1, 2026, to all shareholders of record on September 10, 2026.
