Avalara Makes Versori Agentic Integration Fabric Available

Avalara, Inc. on September 24, 2026, announced the availability of Versori by Avalara, an agentic integration fabric whose specialized AI agents build connectors between enterprise systems and Avalara’s tax and compliance solutions. The offering is available now through the company’s developer portal and was showcased at Avalara CRUSH, its flagship customer and partner conference.

The announcement frames enterprise integration as a persistent cost problem: businesses implement and continually change a complex mix of ERP systems, billing platforms, e-commerce applications, and custom technology, work that demands specialized engineering and produces budgetary strain, staffing burdens, cost overruns, and delays as technology stacks evolve. Avalara says its agents handle the research, analysis, and coding behind an integration much faster and more cheaply than traditional integration tools, and that the specialized agents execute the full integration lifecycle instead of producing generic code or forcing projects into rigid pre-built templates.

Chief Executive Officer Hugo Sarrazin said businesses should not have to spend significant engineering time connecting tax and compliance to the systems where they already work. “Specialized AI agents can research, build, test, and deploy production-grade connectors in days, giving developers and partners a dramatically faster path to bring Avalara into virtually any enterprise system,” he said in the announcement. “For customers, that means less integration work, faster time to value, and greater freedom to use the technology that works for their business.”

Four Agents Handle the Integration Lifecycle

Versori by Avalara divides the work among four core AI agents that take a project from initial mapping to certified release. The Plan agent examines endpoint schemas, API contracts, and compliance requirements to define the integration architecture. The Connect agent sets up secure authentication and automated handshakes between systems, covering ERPs, billing engines, e-commerce platforms, and custom databases. The Build agent generates the transformation logic, mapping rules, and error-handling code needed for production, and customers and partners keep access to the generated connector code and business logic. The Deploy agent runs automated testing, validates the connector against Avalara’s certification benchmarks, and publishes it live.

Avalara Developer Portal documentation lays out a three-step process behind those agents. A user first describes the systems to be connected by supplying an OpenAPI specification, a GraphQL endpoint, a database schema, or a sample CSV or JSON export. The agent then maps the customer’s fields onto Avalara’s data model, writes the integration logic, and runs real test transactions against the tax calculation engine. Before anything goes live, the user reviews each mapping decision, approves the work with a complete audit trail, and only then deploys the integration as production-ready. The portal states that no coding experience is required: users describe their systems in plain language while the agent writes, tests, and hosts the integration code.

Access Requirements for Customers and Partners

Access depends on a user’s relationship with Avalara. Existing customers with an active production AvaTax account can build and deploy a custom integration immediately, and a production account is mandatory because Versori tests determinations and verifies live API responses before any integration is deployed. Users are signed into ai.versori.com through Avalara Identity single sign-on, without a separate Versori account or password. Businesses that are not yet customers can open a 90-day AvaTax free trial, with no credit card required, to test calculations before connecting.

Ownership stays with the customer after deployment. Versori hands off a governed, auditable integration that the customer controls, and ongoing updates and maintenance remain the customer’s responsibility. Every mapping decision stays inspectable, and nothing reaches production without the user’s sign-off.

Partners reach Versori through a dedicated training program whose course modules run from Plan, Connect, and Build through CLI, Test, Deploy, a quiz, and certification. Completing the course is required before platform access is granted, and three prerequisites apply in order: an active Avalara Partner Program agreement, enrollment in the Technology Partner Program, and acceptance of the Versori Platform Addendum.

The free partner offer covers building, testing, deploying, and running one Avalara connector, along with standard tooling, hosted runtime, and documentation. The partner owns the finished connector while Versori owns the underlying platform; support covers platform issues, while the partner maintains its own connector code. Additional connectors require a separate paid agreement or written approval from both parties, and applying Versori to non-Avalara projects such as ERP synchronization or CRM connections requires a standard paid license at Versori’s normal rates. Versori does not guarantee compatibility with other systems, though the program places no restrictions on which systems may be connected, and free access ends if a partner leaves the Partner Program, with the option to continue as a paying direct customer.

The March Acquisition Behind the Product

Versori by Avalara traces to a deal Avalara announced on March 2, 2026, when it acquired Versori, an integration platform company whose technology automates connector development through agentic AI workflows. Deal terms were not disclosed. That acquisition covered both the technology and the team: Versori’s co-founders and additional team members joined Avalara, and the March release said the business would operate under the name Versori, by Avalara.

Scott McFarlane, identified in the March release as Avalara’s chief executive officer and co-founder, said at the time that reliable integration is a precondition for compliance at global scale, and that Versori’s technology and team would accelerate Avalara’s ability to connect into commerce systems worldwide through AI-driven automation while meeting the reliability and accuracy standards that compliance work demands.
