Endra Launches AI Electrical Design Tool and Buys Swiss Lab Planlabs

Endra, the AI platform company for mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering, announced Endra Power Studio on September 16, 2026, describing it as the first agentic platform purpose-built for electrical engineering. In the same announcement, the company said it has acquired Planlabs, a Swiss AI lab building an AI for mechanical engineering.

The release frames the launch against a constraint on engineering capacity. It describes MEP engineering as the work behind every major project, spanning load calculations, system sizing, the placement of thousands of devices, cable and pipe routing, and the documentation contractors build from, and it puts the global MEP services market at more than $150 billion. For 25 years, the release states, that work has run across disconnected tools, with drafting in Revit, calculation in Excel and coordination in Navisworks, and the industry cannot train MEP engineers fast enough to keep up.

Platform Features and Compliance

According to Endra, Power Studio consolidates that work into a single platform that runs the electrical design from start to finish. Under the workflow the company describes, an engineer loads the building model, sets the requirements and directs agents to execute the design, then reviews and signs off at each stage. Endra said a code-compliant electrical design for a 500,000-square-foot commercial building, work it described as traditionally taking around two months, can be completed in less than a day.

The release details four core features. Playbooks let a firm record its engineering standards, covering unit placement, circuiting, code interpretation and calculation methods, and every agent and workflow in the platform works from them; Endra said the feature preserves a firm’s accumulated knowledge when senior engineers retire. Engineers can hand defined tasks to agents that draw on every engine in the platform, with examples including a routing strategy, unit placement across a room type and model updates following architectural revisions.

A simulation feature is meant to confirm a design before anything is built, with a physics engine checking the work against physical laws and building code, down to cable sizing and voltage-drop calculations. Type Rooms target healthcare, multi-family residential and hotel projects: an engineer designs one room, and an agent applies that design to every matching room in the model, replacing what the release describes as hundreds of repetitions with a single pass.

A document engine then produces the Revit model, single line diagrams, shop drawings, panelboard schedules and the bill of materials, keeping the documentation tied to the design. The release states that engineers remain in full control throughout and that Endra does not train its models on customer data. It says the platform is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, assessed under the Cyber Essentials Plus scheme and compliant with the GDPR, the European Union’s data protection regulation, with data hosted regionally. Endra’s website FAQ likewise says the company runs no training of any kind on customer or client models and that data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with AES-256 encryption among the protections.

“Endra takes care of the repetitive work, and gives the engineers back the time for judgment and design,” said Niklas Lindgren, Endra’s CEO and co-founder. He described a firm’s engineering judgment as its product and said Playbooks let that judgment be held as a standard across the team.

The Planlabs Acquisition

Planlabs was founded in Switzerland in June 2024, and the release describes it as a team of five PhDs in mathematics and computer science. According to the release, the lab’s geometry, data and physics engines design mechanical systems automatically and validate them against physical constraints, work Endra called the groundwork for bringing mechanical engineering onto its platform. The team joins Endra in what the release terms a technology and talent acquisition.

“We started Planlabs with the belief that mechanical systems can be engineered fundamentally differently, automatically generating coordinated, collision-free solutions while keeping the engineer in control,” said Rea Sodero, Planlabs’ co-founder and CEO.

Planlabs’ own website identifies the company as Planlabs AG, headquartered in Aarau, Switzerland, and lists a five-member team: Sodero; co-founder and CTO Olivier De Deken; lead algorithm engineer Alexandre Kite; and algorithm engineers Andre Weltsch and Ioannis Mantas. The credentials shown on the site include doctorates in fundamental mathematics and in computer science as well as master’s degrees in mathematics and in management, technology and economics. The site says the company’s proprietary generative design engine, developed from years of in-house research, automatically plans building technology systems, and that users can download a 3D BIM model and a bill of materials, with planning positioned as taking hours rather than months.

Company Background and the Epoch Launch

Endra was founded in Stockholm in 2024 and works with enterprise consulting firms including AtkinsRéalis, Ramboll, Buro Happold, Hoare Lea and AFRY, according to the release; the company’s homepage also displays Tetra Tech and Rejlers among its client logos. The Power Studio launch and the Planlabs acquisition follow a $50 million Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with earlier support from Notion Capital and Norrsken VC. The release adds that Endra is expanding from Stockholm into New York, San Francisco and London.

The launch took place at Epoch, Endra’s own event, held the night before Autodesk University and drawing engineers and technology leaders from across the architecture, engineering and construction industry, according to the release. Endra’s event page dates Epoch to September 14, 2026, at AREA15 in Las Vegas, with 250 seats and doors at 4:30 PM. The page names chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov and Johnson Controls CEO Joakim Weidemanis as speakers, along with a conversation between Lindgren and Motif CEO Amar Hanspal about the future of designing buildings.

Endra’s homepage currently promotes the electrical module launch in Las Vegas and lists product areas spanning fire alarm, electrical, containments and conduits, lighting, HVAC, and plumbing and sprinkler systems, and the company says the platform is natively integrated with Autodesk Revit and open for early access in the EU, UK and US. Power Studio covers electrical engineering; according to the release, a plumbing module will follow in 2027, with mechanical capabilities joining the Endra platform once the Planlabs technology integration is complete.
