Maxton Hall Debuts Prime Video Feature Syncing Mouths to Dubbed Dialogue

Amazon announced on September 9, 2026 that Prime Video is introducing lip-sync technology that matches actors’ on-screen mouth movements to human-performed dubbed dialogue, debuting the feature in English on the first two seasons of Maxton Hall.

Amazon describes the feature as visual dubbing powered by a combination of AI and VFX technologies, which the company said are applied responsibly to improve the customer experience. According to Amazon, the technology addresses the disconnect viewers can encounter with traditional dubbing, when actors’ mouths continue moving after the dubbed dialogue has ended, and it is designed to create a more accessible viewing experience that keeps audiences immersed in the story.

“With lip-syncing, we’re creating a more seamless and immersive way for customers to enjoy global content,” said Raf Soltanovich, vice president of technology at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “And for creators, we’re making it easier for their stories to reach an even broader and global audience, all done under creative oversight to ensure the integrity of their artistic vision is preserved.”

Amazon said it continues to look for practical ways AI can improve the viewing experience, with customers at the center and creators retaining creative control.

Debut on Maxton Hall

The feature debuts on Maxton Hall, which Amazon identifies as Prime Video’s most-watched International Original series to date. Lip-sync dubs are available from September 9, 2026 on Maxton Hall Seasons 1 and 2 globally in English. Amazon said it plans to expand the technology to additional titles, bringing the enhanced viewing experience to more customers and content.

Maxton Hall’s Final Season

Maxton Hall—The World Between Us is based on the best-selling book series by Mona Kasten, and Amazon describes the show as the most successful scripted international Original series on its platform. According to Amazon’s series page, the final season consists of six episodes and will premiere on December 9, 2026 in over 240 countries and regions. Both previous seasons are already available globally on Prime Video, which is included with an Amazon Prime membership priced at $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the United States.

Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damian Hardung return in the lead roles of Ruby and James. Martin Schreier returns as director, with Sandra Stöckmann and Ceylan Yildirim serving as head writers and Marlene Melchior, Catharina Junk, and Aylin Kockler as additional writers for the season. The executive producers are Yildirim, Markus Brunnemann, and Eike Adler, with Valentin Debler as producer, and the series was supported by the German Motion Picture Fund.

According to Amazon’s published synopsis, Ruby’s suspension from Maxton Hall College puts her Oxford ambitions at risk, and she and James set out to prove her innocence while unexpected secrets surface. Amazon published the season’s teaser trailer on September 3, 2026.

Earlier AI Dubbing Pilot

The lip-sync debut follows an earlier AI localization effort at Prime Video. On March 5, 2025, the service began offering AI-aided dubbing on licensed movies and series that Amazon said would not have been dubbed otherwise, initially in English and Latin American Spanish. Amazon said the move was intended to make its streaming library accessible to more customers, noting that customers are increasingly eager to watch series and movies regardless of where they are created.

That pilot launched on 12 licensed movies and series, including El Cid: La Leyenda, Mi Mamá Lora, and Long Lost. Amazon described the pilot as a hybrid process that pairs localization professionals with AI tools for quality control, and said the AI-aided option was limited to titles with no existing dubbing support. Soltanovich said at the time that the company believed in making the customer experience better through practical, useful applications of AI. In the 2025 announcement, Amazon said Prime Video had more than 200 million customers worldwide and described subtitles, captions, audio descriptions, and dubbing as essential to the streaming experience.

The lip-sync dub will also be included when the third and final season of Maxton Hall releases exclusively on Prime Video on December 9, 2026.
