Harvey Acquires Guardrails AI, Its Fourth Acquisition of 2026

Harvey announced on September 9, 2026, its acquisition of Guardrails AI, a San Francisco-based AI security platform for agents, in what the legal AI company said is its fourth acquisition of 2026. Guardrails co-founders Shreya Rajpal and Zayd Simjee and their team will join Harvey’s product and engineering organization.
Harvey chief executive Winston Weinberg said firms ask the same question before they let an agent near real client work: how do you know what it will do. “Guardrails has spent three years building the answer to that question, and we’re putting their know-how underneath every agent we ship,” he said, adding that Harvey is proud to welcome the Guardrails team.
Harvey said the acquisition accelerates its work on agent reliability. The company’s agents now carry out multi-step legal work over hours and days, across matters, documents, and firm knowledge, which Harvey said leaves no room for errors that surface only after the work is delivered.
What Guardrails AI Built
Harvey described Guardrails as a pioneer of AI reliability and simulation infrastructure and said the startup created the first open-source AI guardrails, which help teams find where their agents stray from intended behavior and manage agent risk in real time. According to Harvey, the Guardrails team has spent three years making agent behavior easier to test, predict, and control, and its framework — which the company said defined the abstractions the industry now builds on — is downloaded more than 250,000 times a month.
Guardrails also created Snowglobe, a simulation environment in which synthetic users stress-test agent behavior and surface failure modes before real users encounter them, Harvey said.
On its own website, Guardrails AI presents its product as a guardrails framework for building, governing, and scaling production generative AI across any large language model and deployment environment, alongside its Guardrails Hub. The company says its runtime guardrails detect policy violations, hallucinations, and data leakage and can block outputs before they reach users. Its simulation tools generate realistic datasets for fine-tuning, distillation, and prompt optimization, and its evaluation datasets target edge cases and risky outcomes so teams can quantify failure modes before users find them.
The site features a MasterClass case study in which Aman Gupta, MasterClass’s head of AI, said the company completely switched to Snowglobe for synthetic user-persona data after finding the generated personas more realistic than other synthetic data it had seen. A second case study concerns Changi Airport.
Guardrails’ investors include Zetta Venture Partners, Bloomberg Beta, Pear VC, Factory, and Microsoft, according to the announcement. Guardrails AI also republished the announcement on its own website, where the text is labeled as syndicated from the Harvey blog.
Integration Into Harvey’s Applied AI Work
“We started Guardrails because the hard part of shipping AI isn’t building the system, it’s knowing how it behaves on the inputs nobody thought to test,” Rajpal said. “Professional work is where that matters most, and Harvey is running agents on some of the highest-stakes work there is.” She said the team wants to solve the problem where the standard is highest.
Harvey said Guardrails’ expertise in specifying, simulating, and evaluating agent behavior will strengthen the guardrails and evaluations it builds across its platform. The Guardrails team will begin work immediately on Harvey’s Applied AI initiatives, the company said, adding that together the two companies will build safe, reliable AI that professionals can trust with their most important work.
Harvey’s 2026 Deal Activity
The deal follows Harvey’s July 16, 2026, announcement that it had acquired New York-based Benchmark, a decision infrastructure platform for asset management, in what the company identified as its third acquisition of 2026. Benchmark co-founders Alec Dunn and Connor Janson and their team joined Harvey’s product and engineering organization.
Also on September 9, 2026, Harvey announced a $550 million funding round at a $15.5 billion valuation co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The company said 80% of Am Law 100 law firms use Harvey alongside in-house legal teams that include five of the Fortune 10.
