Kargo’s Camera Towers Automate Receiving at Lineage’s Alabama Warehouse

Kargo, the San Francisco-based company behind an AI vision system for automated inventory capture, and Lineage, the world’s largest global temperature-controlled warehouse REIT, announced on August 26, 2026 that automated receiving operations are now running at Lineage’s Decatur, Alabama warehouse. The facility supports adjacent poultry plants operated by one of the nation’s largest poultry producers, and Kargo’s camera towers have logged more than 64,000 receipts there over the last six months, according to the companies’ announcement.
The system automatically identifies each pallet as it arrives at the dock, capturing SKU and lot information and feeding it directly into Lineage’s warehouse management system. The Decatur operation processes more than 500 pallets per day, and the companies say the automation cut what once took minutes per receipt down to seconds.
What Kargo’s Towers Do at the Dock Door
Receiving is one of the last heavily manual chokepoints in a high-volume food warehouse. Teams scan each pallet by hand, verify the data against bills of lading, and key the results into the WMS — a sequence that is both slow and prone to error, in an environment where traceability carries regulatory weight.
Kargo’s approach replaces the handheld scanner with fixed camera towers installed at the dock door. As pallets pass through, the towers image all sides of the freight and computer vision extracts label text, barcodes, lot numbers, expiration dates, and dimensions, according to Kargo’s product documentation. The captured data syncs with the warehouse’s existing WMS, and the system flags damage or shipment mismatches in real time with visual evidence attached.
The hardware is designed for the realities of a working dock. Kargo says the towers are built to withstand a forklift impact, plug into a standard 110–120 volt outlet with no Wi-Fi requirement, and are installed and maintained by Kargo’s own team around the clock.
The Deployment Numbers
The Decatur figures give a rare window into what production-scale receiving automation actually looks like, as opposed to a pilot:
- 64,000+ receipts automated over six months
- 500+ pallets per day processed at the facility
- Minutes reduced to seconds per receipt, per the companies
Lineage says the freed-up labor has been reallocated to higher-value work elsewhere in the facility rather than cut. For the poultry plants the warehouse serves, the effect is faster inbound flow: product moves from production to storage and shipping without the receiving queue acting as a brake.
“The Kargo system is helping us remove friction from one of the most labor-intensive parts of the warehouse operation,” said Elliott Wolf, Vice President and Chief Data Scientist at Lineage, in the announcement. “By automating receiving, we’re not only improving accuracy and speed, but also empowering our team to focus on higher-impact work.”
What Comes Next at Decatur
The receiving deployment is one piece of a broader automation push at the facility. Automated load scanning — applying the same camera-based capture to outbound freight to raise throughput — is scheduled to launch in Decatur shortly, according to the announcement.
The Decatur work also fits Lineage’s wider initiative to deploy computer vision and automation across its cold chain network. Lineage, which operates as a publicly traded REIT, has framed data science and patented warehouse technology as central to how it runs temperature-controlled logistics at global scale.
Kargo CEO Sam Lurye described the deployment as a marker for how food logistics and AI operate together. “By connecting real-world product flow to digital systems in real time, Kargo and Lineage are setting a new standard for automated supply chain operations,” he said in the announcement.
Kargo, founded in 2019 and headquartered in San Francisco, sells the system as a service: it delivers and installs the towers, integrates with existing WMS, TMS, and ERP systems, and staffs a remote operations team to handle exceptions in real time, per its product pages. The Decatur go-live adds a large-scale poultry operation to that customer base, with outbound load scanning next in line.
