Neural Acceleration Inside the Shader Core

The Mali G2-Ultra NX places neural accelerators within the shader cores so neural graphics workloads run alongside conventional graphics and compute work. The integration reuses the GPU memory system, coherent caches, and control structures, which Arm said reduces data movement across the pipeline. The product page describes the accelerator block as supporting INT8 and INT16 processing with optical flow acceleration.

Arm detailed three neural graphics technologies built into the GPU. Neural Super Sampling, or NSS, reconstructs higher-resolution images from lower-resolution renders, reducing the conventional rendering work needed for the final image. Neural Frame Rate Upscaling, or NFRU, generates intermediate frames to raise displayed frame rates. Neural Super Sampling and Denoising, or NSSD, combines neural upscaling with denoising for ray-traced scenes with complex lighting and shadows.

Neural Dawn, a game developed by Arm and Sumo Digital, demonstrates how NFRU and NSSD integrate into a production pipeline. Arm said the title delivers up to 4x higher performance efficiency and up to 70 percent lower external memory traffic compared with native rendering, gains the company said make techniques such as Unreal Engine MegaLights practical on mobile hardware. Arm first showed Neural Dawn in Juni 2026; the game is set for release later in 2026 on Android devices powered by upcoming Mali GPUs.

New Execution Engine and Third-Generation Ray Tracing

Alongside the neural hardware, the GPU introduces a new execution engine, which Arm described as the biggest Mali GPU instruction set architecture upgrade in seven generations. It provides up to 2x more registers per warp, a change the company said gives developers more headroom for complex scenes while maintaining consistent frame rates.

Arm reported that the architectural changes deliver up to 24 percent higher benchmark performance and 14 percent higher gaming performance than the previous generation. Combined with NFRU, the company said the GPU supports mobile gaming sessions at up to 120 frames per second. A footnote on the product page states the comparisons are against the prior generation and are based on internal testing conducted between March and Agustus 2026.

The third-generation ray tracing unit supports more complex lighting, shadows, reflections, and geometry. Arm said the new unit delivers up to 13 percent lower DRAM traffic on leading ray tracing benchmarks. Hardware support for Opacity Micromaps, which handle transparent geometry such as foliage and layered surfaces more efficiently, increased frame rates by 30 percent and cut the ray tracing workload by up to 70 percent in one Arm demo, according to the company.

Developer Stack and Game Adoption

Arm said it began preparing the software ecosystem two years before the hardware with Arm Neural Technology and an open development kit for neural graphics. The Arm Neural Graphics Development Kit now provides NSS and NFRU, machine learning extensions for Vulkan, and plug-ins for game engines including Unreal Engine. An SDK supports custom-engine integration, and profiling, training, and model-optimization tools round out the stack.

NetEase’s Where Winds Meet is among the first games set to ship with the technology. Keli Zhou, Engine Lead for the title, said the studio is integrating Arm Neural Technology into its Messiah Engine and that the game “will be among the first games to bring Arm Neural Technology to players.”

In the CSS for Mobile 2 announcement, Arm said Tencent Games Central Tech’s MagicDawn and Unity China’s Tuanjie Engine are also integrating Arm Neural Technology, alongside an NSSD demonstration using Tencent Games’ Arena Breakout Infinite and NSS integration with Infold Games’ Infinity Nikki. The platform pairs the GPU with the Arm C2 CPU cluster, enhanced system IP, and physical implementations aimed at silicon partners building next-generation mobile chips.
